Stepping into Mountain Rocks Cafe is like stepping into a friend's cozy living room. Rich wooden walls, built from locally sourced logs, and vibrant colors create an inviting atmosphere that instantly warms you up. Whether you're a local catching up with friends or a visitor seeking refuge from the cold, the friendly staff makes you feel right at home. My initial indulgence in a delicious cake was quickly trumped by the discovery of the day's soup: a leek and potato masterpiece that was pure comfort food heaven. Rich, creamy, and bursting with flavor, it was a testament to the quality ingredients and culinary skill. I can only imagine the other menu items are equally delightful, judging by the satisfied chatter from fellow diners. The popularity of Mountain Rocks is no surprise. It's not just the warm ambiance and friendly service; it's the passion the owners pour into every detail. From the locally sourced materials to the commitment to serving the best coffee, food, and service, their dedication shines through. It's the kind of place where you can tell they truly care about your experience. Of course, with popularity comes peak season crowds. If you're visiting during the winter rush, be prepared for a wait. But trust me, the delicious food, welcoming atmosphere, and genuine hospitality make it well worth the wait. Highly recommended! Whether you're a local or a visitor, Mountain Rocks Cafe is a must-visit spot in Okahune. Prepare to be charmed by the ambiance, warmed by the service, and delighted by the food. Hi there, on 12th Jan 2024 (last Friday) around 9 am I was at Ohakune and ordered one egg bacon muffin, 3 coffees and one beef parmigiana, but u have taken the price of Parmi and served same egg becon, after reaching to hotel I have noticed that but we were in so much rush that we had to reach Wellington on time , we could not even come back and shown to you that you guys did this cheat to us. After that we came to Picton then just moving and moving , because we have to cover whole NZ. Now way towards Christchurch. We are from Sydney, Australia and this kind of behaviour we had to face from the people of NZ, it’s really A SHAME. Please see attached pic and if possible refund me the excess money to my bank card ending with xxxx xxxx xxxx 2623. You have the card number with you already. I hope you would understand your mistake and refund my excess money as parmi was expensive than this egg and bacon muffin and you took my money but instead of parmi served 2 egg bacon - same item Food: 2 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 2

Stopped for a quick lunch on our way back from Wellington. Great food, nice coffee. (3 stars for service as a knife and fork was delivered in the sauce - a little sloppy - Shame as everything else was good.) Service Dine in Food: 5 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 5

Mountain rocks always serves a great cup of coffee, with friendly staff and various options for food. Their pies are of a great standard and definitely a must-try. The decoration sets a nice mood for staying in when it's less than warm outside.

We had a fairly large group and all the other places were full. We were lucky that there was space here to fit us all. The place had a really interesting decor, lots of interestingly painted animals, many of which were purchasable. The menu has a fair selection of items and there is also some cabinet food. It was a bit disappointing how the specials menu on the back of the counter were items on the menu. I had a hard time picking between the scotch and the lamb shank and ended up with the shank. I was not disappointed. The nicely cooked shank had a really nice sauce over it as well as a jug of mint sauce. I'm not a big fan of mint sauce but this one was nice because it wasn't overly minty. The potato underneath was also quite delicious. It did get busy later on, particularly since they were streaming the North Vs. South rugby game. It was a nice place for dinner and has decent options for drinks too.
