Great locale pub , kids and animals friendly. Good range of craft beers and food's. Monday is the only closing date and can book table in an advance. Apollo cinema is in the same building Price per person $30–40 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Recommended dishes Pizza and Mushroom Croquettes

What a delight! Popped in to check the beers and had a wonderful experience. Great, welcoming staff, fantastic, quirky, reconstructed building and good beers, including 3 real ales on handpump. Only had chips, so can't really comment on the food, but they were tasty and served in measuring cone! The tasting paddles of beer were served in glass laboratory beakers. Love it!

The Laboratory is a really fun interesting place to hang out. We went today for a friend's birthday and the atmosphere, service and food were fantastic. I would highly recommend checking it out. I had chicken burger with chips and it would have to be up there on my favs list. Price per person $30–40 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

We love The Laboratory. The kids have never eaten dinner so easily and with no complaints :) The pizzas are perfection, especially alongside one of the craft brewed beers. Such a great and unique place! Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Recommended dishes Spicy Chicken

Absolutely loved this place! A wide selection of beers with 3 real ales on hand pull along with an explanation what a real ale is for those unfamiliar. Most beers are their own, with a couple of guests as well. The place has a lovely vibe to it, with friendly staff and intriguing artefacts about the building. Tasting flights come in scientific glass beakers which caused some amusement, and the menu is based on a periodic table! The most interesting part for me was the history of the building itself; constructed from reclaimed materials from old buildings and those destroyed in the 2011 earthquake. There is also a small cinema on site, which time prevented me from exploring. I wish this was my local...although that would probably be rather bad for my worklife!

The Lab was our local and had never failed to impress. We visited last night as it was my choice for a birthday meal. The service was very slow to start with and it took quite awhile to get a drink from our table, despite there being a high number of staff working. Unsure if there have been staffing changes as well as menu changes but the place was just different, almost empty by 8pm. Unfortunately with the menu updates my favourite item the teriyaki tofu burger has been removed, the replacement a falafel wrap of sorts was an underwhelming option. The sides were fine but just like normal pub food, nothing bad but nothing particularly great or overly flavorful. We really did love the lab but unfortunately the price for a couple of pints doesnt leave room for an average meal. Below photos are from previous review and not reflective of the current menu. Excellent. Venue awesome and food and beers perfect. We had the fish with salad which was delicious. Would definitely call in again. Thoroughly recommend.

We had an awesome experience here! Super friendly staff who whisked us to a table and took orders. Food options are great and once ordered, our pizza came very quickly! We loved both the margarita and the Carne was especially good!! Nice beer aswell. Great music too and cosy atmosphere. We would definitely come here again!
