Wow!! I am so thankful that we stopped here to eat lunch. The atmosphere is so amazing and relaxing. The food was tasteful and cooked perfectly. Our sever was great. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Ahi Tuna
Came here for dinner recently for dinner, the wait wasn't too long even though it was really busy that day. Our waitress was was so nice and attentive. The lobster roll and fries was really flavorful and affordable. Love the ambiance here and sometimes they have a band. Enjoyable experience all together. #food #dinner #seafood #restaurant

Lobster Roll
We ventured to The Highland(formerly Bernie’s). Our little crew sat at the bar for a bevvy and nosh.
The buffalo wings were tasty: crispy skin, tender on the inside and a traditional spicy sauce. The Buffalo cauliflower, its vegetarian counterpart, was awesome as well!
The truffle fries were a bummer: a whisper of weak truffle oil, a smatter of Parmesan cheese, not worth the (YIKES) $9… stick to Highland’s basic good fries for $5!
The bartenderess slayed, putting care in making the cocktails(caramelizing a banana garnish with a blowtorch?! NEAT!), whilst effortlessly tending to the bar patrons and servers. Being effortless is a skillset y’all…recognize!
Overall lovely ambience for a casual meal or chill date! Cool and polite staff! Lotsa tvs for the sporting!

I came for happy hour and the bar was packed. The great thing is happy hour is available throughout the whole restaurant!
I got the mahi tacos, wings, and cheesesteak egg rolls. Everything was soooo tasty. I been to their other restaurant, West Ave Grille and I just knew this place wouldn’t disappoint me.
My drink was the banana old fashion which was a nice spin to the traditional old fashion. I also had the Campfire cocktail, I don’t remember the waitress mentioning it was coffee in it but it was still a tasty drink.
My waitress was amazing btw. She was very attentive and patient!

Kayla and Amber were absolute stars. Definitely a step up from Bernie’s! Crystal was a gem and gave us the best customer service a manager could give. Best believe, I will be will be coming back and recommend this place to everyone. I brought my ex-coworker here and we were in awe’. We can’t wait too come back!

Burger
Have been wanting to try the Highland for a while now. We stopped in yesterday and were really happy we did. We sat at the bar and caught the last 40 minutes of happy hour.
Service was very good but not intrusive. Beer and wine selection is good. And, $4 draft quality beers was a really nice surprise. Happy hour appetizers were even a better deal. Happy Hours Apps: The buffalo wings were really good as were the cheesesteak egg rolls and mahi tacos. The amount of mahi on the tacos was impressive. We also had the shrimp cocktail. They were large and cooked perfectly. We’ll definitely be back.

Came out on a Saturday night for dinner with my sister. Energetic atmosphere with a vibrant bar. Be prepared if searching for a quieter dinner experience. Food was nicely presented and delicious. Would definitely return.

Crispy Brussels
The place is good and the food was great! We went looking for Bernies and found that Bernies is closed but the Highland is open. The three appetizers we ordered are highly recommended: truffle fries, cheesesteak egg rolls, and candied bacon. We also got the brussel sprouts and they were really good. The rest of the food was good. The service was super friendly but I think they could have been more attentive to our drinks. But we got our food right and fast. So overall recommended!

Fried Chicked Sandwhich
I’ve been waiting for the Highland to open ever since it was announced - especially because we love West Ave Grille and Pizza Box. I’m happy to say that the Highland did not disappoint in any way. They have the best happy hour around - excellent prices for food and drinks and everything was great. We got the cheesesteak egg rolls and the pigs in a blanket which were both phenomenal, especially the mustard sauce! For entrees we got the lobster roll which was absolutely packed with lobster, very clean and fresh tasting. My wife got the salmon which was cooked perfectly. For dessert we went for the Oreo pie, super rich but very tasty. Overall just a wonderful experience, they have a very robust beer and wine selection, and some wonderfully curated cocktails. Finally, our server MaryAnn (hope I spelled that correctly) was incredible! She was there when we needed her, provided excellent suggestions, and made the whole experience even better. Overall, the Highland took a place with a lot of potential and made it what it should be: a restaurant that cares about the food they put out, that has obviously put a ton of work into making great food with great drinks in a lovely atmosphere. Moreover they’ve staffed the place with servers that also care. If you liked Bernie’s, the Highland will exceed your expectations easily.

The menu is a heartless and unimaginative collection of options you can find on the menu of any other restaurant in the area, including brussel sprouts, wings, salmon, chicken, salads, etc. Do they do them better than anyone else? Not particularly. There’s no theme to the restaurant or the menu, unless you can consider “same as everywhere else” a theme.
The brussel sprouts, which other restaurants have been roasting for years, are presented in similar form, albeit this time without their thick roots trimmed properly, giving you the opportunity to gnaw through them, like eating broccoli with the stems still on. The Airline Chicken is presented atop green beans, atop a cauliflower puree, and atop a layer of grease and fat. It was as tasteless to look at as it was to attempt to eat. This is the height of overthinking a meal and attempting to class up a dish. Three items, which in and of themselves would be delicious if done correctly, piled atop one another to the point that none of them can be considered edible. And the “Ceasar” salad (I spelled that as the restaurant spelled it) with grilled shrimp is a bag of Dole lettuce with sweet cashews and the sold shrimp cocktail thrown on top. It had 4 cold shrimp, the same number listed for the shrimp cocktail, so it was easy to figure out what happened.
There was a lot wrong with the restaurant beyond just the lazy menu. The service staff (those on duty and those not on duty), including the owner, were openly drinking at the bar. I get that tonight was just another in a long line of nights at a restaurant. But this was the first time that I, and maybe a few others visited the restaurant, and will most definitely be the last time. Why would I return? The food was not good, the service was not good, the ambiance was very strange/quiet/boring and frankly dead. And for the lack of patrons around us, you’d think an owner/manager would take the time out of his night to take a second with one of his tables, beyond “How was everything?” on his 10th time past our table. I feel like my response of, “It was just okay” would maybe get them to stop to ask “Why?” He had to get back to the corner of the bar to talk with his staff that was huddled around enjoying their evening.
If this is the same food and vision that the Highland is presenting day in and day out, I have a real dark view of the future for the restaurant. The food is cooked without skill, presented without a clear vision, and leaves the diner with the feeling that there is no heart behind the food. It is almost as if The Highland is A.I.’s version of a restaurant in 2019. It feels like a bygone era of dining. Someone needs to wake up, or the Bernie’s curse is going to strike.
There was one thing right, the check came quickly.
