We came late for dinner on Saturday night and we had burgers and cheese curds that were very good. The burgers had good flavor and the curds were light, fluffy, and tasty. We also came back for brunch the next day. Hwnc the low score. There were children running around the dining room, the food was sitting out. Missing utensils and serving spoons. Small selection. Service was lacking for not that many people. And the made-to -order omelettes, we cancelled after waiting 30 min. I really want to like this place. As a lifelong Kenosha resident I am grateful for what the developers have done with the former Elks Club to turn it into a destination and event space. I have been to the restaurant twice in the last month. The atmosphere is very nice but the service leaves a lot to be desired. The first time we waited 10 minutes after being seated before anyone came to our table to get things started. I should say that it was not busy at the time. The food on that visit was good, if a bit pricey for what we got. Last night I took a group there and we didn't find out until we got there that they were still using the Valentine's Day "special" menu, which was about a quarter the size of the regular menu and seemed more expensive. Service, again, was a challenge with our server neglecting to bring someone a drink order and then telling us that the bar was really busy. I was literally looking at the bar area from my chair and that was plainly a lie. Three in our party ordered the chicken picatta and while the meat was okay, the bed of pasta had been overcooked into a mushy paste. Two of us had fish fry. The fish was decent but clearly overcooked at the fillet was stiff as a board. It's hard to want to patronize this establishment with the prices where they are and the service where it isn't! Great space and great employees from our experience but the Sunday Brunch is not good. It's basically a glorified continental breakfast. And I've had better breakfasts for free at other hotels. The best thing I ate was a waffle from the waffle machine (the same kind they have at a free breakfast hotel) I wish we would've driven to Mad Rooster and had an exquisite breakfast there for way less money. Disappointed and sad. I had looked forward to this for a while. Don't let the online menu fool you like it fooled me. The 1884 is a wonderful dining experience. We went here for a birthday dinner. Enjoy the drinks, the beef, the potatoes, and all the other entrees. We loved the experience and the food, but the services was less than excellent. We waited a while for a few things that were rather standard. Altogether, you’ll enjoy your time here. Make sure you budget your time to check out the hotel and ballroom. A truly beautiful venue,

We love the food and atmosphere, but continue to have horrible service every time we visit. Last time, several orders at our table were incorrect and it was impossible to track down our server. We ended up just eating things as is instead of waiting and waiting. Tonight was the same. We were the only people in the large dining room and they seated a large, loud group right next to us. I had to move my chair as a man sat so close to me that his chair pushed against mine pushing me toward our table. Our food order was incorrect and we didn't get any drink refills at all during our dinner. We had a hard time waving down our server for things. We had an error on our check that was not fixed correctly and then we waited nearly an hour to get it rectified by the manager. Unfortunately, I'm not sure we'll go back. My girlfriend and I stopped in because we were looking for a nice dinner and good vibe in the small town of Kenosha. I’m not from here so I googled dinner in the city. It was in the stars that we were directed to 1844. We didn’t have a reservation but we didn’t really need one because it wasn’t that busy (5pm). We decided to sit at the bar because that’s always our preference. Andrew was our bartender and let me tell you…he was amazing! My friend and I told him what spirits we liked and he made us cocktails that were 100% spot on to our taste. The food we ordered was 5 stars as well. We had the stacked chicken and salmon entree. Amazing experience all around. I’ll definitely be back!
Was disappointed in the value for the selection. Given the charge I would have expected a carving station or omelette bar. Maybe drink specials. Buffet was standard hotel breakfast buffet. For a brunch I would expect more than eggs and bacon as a protein option. There was no vegetarian protein option. Bagels only bread with limited fruit selection. 2 Server’s and our didn’t keep drinks filled without being called over. Not likely we will return. Great looking restaurant in the Stella. Service and appetizers were great. 3 of the four of our group had the Friday cod fish fry that looked incredible, but really missed the mark taste-wise. The fish were massively "battered" and deep fried too long. Hopefully an anomaly as the venue has a great vibe. Food: 3 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

I'm looking forward to seeing how the space continues to develop, but I was impressed on my first visit. The decor, space, and ambiance is breathtakingly transportive. Went in with a small group for a late dinner. Immediate seating and warm reception. The trip to the table felt like a fun architectural tour of a vintage space. (I've spent perhaps 10 years speculating what the interior of this building could look like). The host that seated us shared a little history and explanations about what was to come. At the table, or server (Laura) greeted us with professional warmth and continued to offer help and education on the space, menu, and history. The food and drink list are limiting, but looks to be (planned to be) updated on a monthly basis. I'm hoping that in the future they might have a desert menu in addition to dinner/lunch. My wife had a cocktail which she enjoyed, while I enjoyed their finite, yet concise beer selection. The house salad was very good (although the addition of garlic in the tomatoes weren't enjoyed by my wife). I had the walleye, well cooked, with a subtle flavor. I would very much like to try more next time. Very impressed, and looking forward to the next time. I also am excited to share future meals and experiences here with friends and family.
