Small portions, high prices! I've revised this review to be specific about the dish I ordered, which is definitely on the menu. My feelings about my order: Basically, it is unreasonable to charge $18 for a tiny bowl of pumpkin curry. I went here with my son for his birthday for a nice meal. We spent $80 between us, which made no sense. Curries are made with simple ingredients, like legumes, veggies and chicken. They're not expensive to make and should not cost a fortune, especially in such limited portions. I don't eat much but I would have liked a meal sized bowl of curry. Another issue, they use strongly scented hand sanitizer, near the entry. The harsh chemical scent fills the air and interferes with the experience of the food. The waitress kindly sat us by an open window but perfume and food just don't mix. It would be so easy to use unscented hand sanitizer. I just did not have a good experience and felt super disappointed. Service Dine in Meal type Dinner Price per person $50–100 Food: 1 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 3
nice vibes little place with good service. i really liked the amount and ease of vegan options. i enjoyed the vegan mango lassi which i haven’t seen in other places before. also really liked the samosa chaat. the saag, aloo gobi, momos, and biryani were all alright. Service Dine in Meal type Lunch Price per person $30–50 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

Pretty expensive for tiny portions, although the food was delicious and the service was good. It was empty when we went, but to be fair it was a Wednesday at 2 pm. The place was fairly nice, however it would have been nicer with a little music since it was awkwardly very quiet. It was also really cold inside. Although the food was tasty, it should have been spicier. We ordered medium and I wouldn’t even call what we got mild. My favorite thing is the many vegan options they have on the menu.

Highly underrated! My favorite Nepalese/Indian restaurant in Berkeley. The food is consistently delicious, not too oily or salty and full of flavor. The naan is also some of the best I've had anywhere. Would recommend the chili momos, chicken tikka masala, and saag paneer, but it's hard to go wrong. Price per person $20–30 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Recommended dishes Momos
This is a nice place to sit and eat in Berkeley, though I would grab a drink elsewhere. My partner and I arrived here 30-40min before closing and the staff were friendly and fast. The dining room is pleasant and clean. We had the momo sampler, lamb curry, and okra. The chicken momos were delicious, a savory mix of flavors in a delicious noodle wrap. The lamb curry was also very nice, but we probably would not order the okra again. The beer here is $11 for an import lager, and my partner and I decided to get drinks elsewhere. Service Dine in Meal type Dinner Price per person $20–30

This is a family owned restaurant serving all varieties of Indian and Nepalese food. The dry chilli chicken and Himalayan chowmein tasted best and reminded me of the Indo-Chinese flavors growing up in India. Kids loved the cheese paratha. Very good dining experience with the owner constantly checking on us delivering good customer service. The price was reasonable. Will highly recommend anyone visiting Berkeley campus. This place was incredible! The owner Bonita was so kind to us, she personally went out of her way to make sure we had everything we wanted and I got to eat nostalgic dishes I haven’t had since I was 5 years old - it was very special. Highly recommend this restaurant. Service Dine in Meal type Dinner Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

Taste of the Himalayas serves a great range of Nepalese and Northern Indian dishes including momos, tarkari curries, lamb dishes as well as your usual favorites, both veg and nonveg. The staff is wonderfully polite and the ambience is enhanced with soft Indian music and beautiful murals on every wall. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
Good combination of familiar Indian and more unique Nepalese dishes at a good restaurant price point in one of ‘downtown’ street (Shattuck) area in Berkeley. The place is quaint, friendly service and each entree (average $15 per dish) comes with delicious lentil soup and a choice of basmati/brown rice or freshly baked naan (a must have!). Would recommend what I tried: Saag Paneer (spinach dish) and Chicken Coconut Curry and for drink: hot unsweetened Nepalese tea easy on the milk (taste like Masala Chai tea) - I believe it’s a healthy accompaniment for that type of food. Btw the mural outside the restaurant is a nice add to see out the window. Street parking is relatively easy to find.
