It's an educational tour on a 1000 yr culinary culture from the old goat 周老板. (I am also an old goat but the boss is an older goat). One thing is for sure, he really puts in a lot of effort in keeping his customers entertained and happy. Just look at his genuine smile. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 4

The owner claims that it’s not a normal mutton soup as he uses the traditional Tao’s way to prepare the elixir by combining Yin and Yang to extract the lamb with 26 Herbs at 1000 deg C for three days a and nights. It tastes delicious. An interesting restaurant to go in Chiayi Area.

So... This is the meal and the show. We were here partly because we watched (I forced them watched) an episode of Netflix that's about street foods in Chiayi and partly because Dad kept talking how nonna made this goat stew when he was younger and of course we were there for Mothers day. The stew's alright, like a A- alright. The herbs they used made more like a Chinese medical soup and we aren't really used to the taste. But the meat is tender and flavorful. Said it's a show... Well, you can see the pic that the owner actually gave a ten minutes speech about how to make the dish and show us the walk-in oven. It was exactly like what he said on Netflix. I was in awe. He actually did that every time people eat there!? 😳 So, do I recommend the restaurant? Um... Sure, it's sorta a experience. Meal ain't cheap, the road is far and they don't take credit cards.
Super hard to find the restaurant, but it is worth it when you see such a traditional taiwanese house. The pot is somehow expensive since there are only a few ingredients.

Highly recommend foreigners who are interested in Taiwanese culture and traditional food visit. Mr. Chou will sincerely introduce the story and the history of Tao. You will experience not only scrumptious dishes but also the spirit of Taoism. By the way, Mr.Chou junior is very charming.

Worth the trip!! Me and my girlfriend first decided to come here due to the Netflix episode, Street Food (Chiayi), however I have to say it exceeded our expectations. On arrival we were warmly welcomed by one of the owners and even though we arrived just before closing time we were told to take our time and enjoy the meal. Even though the owners predominantly speak Chinese and Taiwanese, there’s also others working there who fluently speak English and are happy to explain the whole process. Not just the lamb but all the side dishes included were delicious. After our meal, we were lucky enough to be shown the whole process and have it explained in detail and the amount of love and compassion put into it is clearly shown in the taste. It really felt like eating home food, however the cooking methods are a lot more extreme!!

Uncle goat was incredibly sweet and he showed the place where he makes his special soup. The food was great, the soup had a herb like flavor which is not for everyone, however the rest of the food was delicious. His son was there to translate for us, over all it was an incredible experience, was definitely worth the drive for me.

Uncle Goat’s 3 Day 3 Night Goat Stew is cooked for 72 hours and is known to have medicinal benefits for various ailments. It’s inspiring to see Uncle Goat taking so much pride and passion in creating a cultural culinary masterpiece. The dishes are flavorful and delicious, the hospitality is warm and friendly. Uncle Goat treats all his guests like family. We sincerely thank Uncle Goat and his family for their kind hospitality. Uncle Goat also took us through the process of making the dish in the walk-in oven, which allows us to better appreciate and connect to the dish that we are eating.

It was a nice experience and the family that runs the joint are very warm and welcoming. The side dishes were very nice as was the soup. The lamb is not very special and the fish isn't great, but it is worth a visit.
