Relaunching soon, as Panama slowly opens the restaurant sector. Restaurante El Castillo will now be Restaurante El Castillo Caribeño, as the new managing chefs roll out an excitingly fresh menu, celebrating the flavours of the Caribbean islands, which will even include Caribbean inspired Sushi. Keep following for more exciting updates.
This is a fantastic dining experience in Portobelo! The food is great and the views of the Bay are spectacular! Lunch and dinner highly recommended here!!
This restaurant changed ownership a year ago. The food is an upgraded version of the original menu. Service was prompt and the drinks and view were what I needed most. 6 stars!

After a long day and a long drive this was a welcome stop on our adventure. The place is unique and reeks of charm and the food was solid and the drinks were cold. I hope to visit this place again one day.
Over the years I´ve spend a few weeks in El Castillo. I recommend to start the day with banana pancakes and a real Italian Espresso. Go to jump into the carribean sea before sunset. For dinner you got the choice of local fish or south-east-asian cuisine. Your host Richard, born in Vietnam, grown up in France and living in the carribean now, is taking great care of you. I love the three-legged dog, please give him a hug! Some things here are unique... if there not many guests, when the sun ist hottest during noontime, the cute bats from castillo´s tower come down to a shady corner of the dormitory. El Castillo is a short und peaceful walking distance from Portobello, so u get all bus connections, shopping possibilities and more nearby.
Bad experience.
We waited longer than one hour four our meal.
Dishes were very different (less quantity and worse) than showed on the menu.
Bad value for money.
And… they had run out of mineral water … (???)
Just don’t go there.
Id like to kiss the chef! lol the food was so flavorful and fresh plus super generous portions! We stayed 4 nights in Guaira which didn't have any restaurants open during the week so we traveled about 35 mins every night to eat al el castillo and it never did disappoint. Service by Adriana was also very good and she was so friendly. Thank you!
we will be back!
