If you are a tourist in Helsinki and looking after traditional Finnish style food, try Ravintola Kannas. Place atmosphere is also very Finnish style and you could imagine that you are in Aki Kaurismäki film set, where he tries to create authentic feeling of Finnish restaurant. Menu has some other options along usual Finnish style servings. Staff is polite and helpful. Any restaurant full of locals on a Thursday must be good anyway. This was a fantastic find. The service was great and so was the food. The salmon soup starter is great. Next my husband had the meatballs, which were delicious. I had the Dinner the Finnish way, a Herring dish with mash and pickle. You get so much herring with this dish and it's cooked to perfection. The staff worked really hard here and we're attentive and it was high quality food. We would definitely come back. Authentic Finnish food in a traditional restaurant with lovely original interiors. Service was prompt and friendly. The portions were huge and very tasty. Definitely recommend the meatballs (enough for 2 not very hungry people or 1 very hungry one!)- the fish plate was enough to share as a starter and all the fish was great, especially the marinated herring and the salmon.
