Proto Bakery is an old fashioned gem in Alberton North. It is a childhood memory that has not changed in all the years I have known it. Even though that reflects in the store itself, it reflects in the amazing baked goods they offer. Their Steak Pies are my absolute favourite and I will never visit Alberton without stopping for a dozen of them. Their koeksusters are the best you will ever have and if it's platters for a party whether Sweet or savoury, I can vouch that they are the best. George also does stunning custom made Birthday, wedding and any celebration cakes. Yes its old and yes the town has degraded but you will never go wrong supporting this family run business that has been in their family for generations. Food: 5 Recommended dishes Proto Pies

Best bakery in town. The owners are hardworking, very helpful and friendly. The prices are incredibly reasonable considering the quality of the goods sold and expertise of the staff. George is the South African Cake Boss. This place is a hidden gem unlike any other. #steakpies #ifyouknowyouknow

The goods inside are tasty and isn't expensive. They didn't have a wide ringe of baked goods when I was there but there is space for a larger display. The sanitary conditions aren't that great due to exposed and uncovered food. They offer more than baked goods at the counter that offers more variable purchases. Not a bad place but not the best out of the options available in the area. On a good note, if you are looking for cheaper prices on baked goods, this place offers great prices.

Their staff are wonderful and they even allow you order in advance and collect the order. We recently order burger buns for a family outing and they were the cream of the crop. I would highly recommend this place for all your bakery needs. They products are made with love and care.

Proto who ive been going for a long time and made the best choclate eclairs where i would drive from Bryanston to go get a dozen has changed. The lady owner is very rude and impatient and makes you think your doing her a favour by shopping there makes it very unpleasant.
