If we'd known this relaxing Outpost with delicious food and wonderful people existed just 4km out of Aguas Calientes, there's no way we'd of stayed in AC. Walk out here, enjoy their gardens, see the waterfall, and have a delicious local Peruvian lunch for a much more reasonable price than you'll find elsewhere.
Great alternative lodging if coming from Salkantay/Hydroelectrica and you want to completely avoid Aguas Calientes (recommended). The staff are very helpful, the beds are clean and warm, toilets are clean, the water gets hot, the meals are tasty with vegetarian options, there is a good view of the river, and not many crowds. It is only a 25 minute walk from the lodge to the base of the trail to Machu Picchu, and the Gardens of Mandor are right across the train tracks and is a pleasant walk even if you've been hiking all week. It is interesting to put a name to all of the plants one sees out here, plus there is swimming allowed by the waterfall at the end of the trail.
Accommodation and the restaurant is totally overpriced, the camping looks like a construction site. If coming from Hydroelectrica, rather walk 2km further and stay at the Municipal campsite next to the road to Machu Picchu.
