Happened to be in the area of West Capitol Park, on foot, and got hungry. Just happened to see this restaurant was open (a lot is closed on the weekend near the capital) and had a lunch special advertised in the window. I went inside and was warmly welcomed and I ordered the Curry Chicken lunch special - which was just under ten dollars - and got me a GENEROUS helping of hot and flavorful rice, curry, mixed vegetables, and several big pieces of chicken. The chicken was perfectly cooked and ready to fall off the bone, perfectly saturated with spicy flavorful curry and rice. The cabbage went perfectly with the rest and complimented the meal flawlessly. This restaurant is an absolute diamond in the rough and the meal simply made my day. I am coming back again and bringing my financeé - and can’t wait to try the whole menu! The food wasn’t even hot. It was the end of the night they tried to heat it up but didn’t heat it up enough. Prices went up. I had oxtails, rice and peas and cabbage. It’s not as good as it use to be. The plantains were pretty good. I probably will not be going back. 😒. *Update. I ate here again and had the same thing and it was really good 😊. I guess it was a different cook.

Let’s start with the very small amount of baked mac & cheese that cost $4. It was horrible. The beef patty was burnt to hell. The coco bread could brake a window. The stew chicken was good with the rice. The curry goat was good but the basmati rice was off.

Ordered jerk chicken tasted like it was microwaved and the cabbage was dry, also they serve rice that came out a box smh classic jafaking restaurant… edit: May 12 2023 ordered stew beef at 9:30pm and everything is cold the food is not hot or even warm cabbage tasted like it came out the refrigerator but the plantings were hot and fresh smh come on changed my 2 star review to a 1 star now gave them 2 chances here too

The atmosphere had a lot to be desired but the food was great. The Mac and cheese was outstanding. Love the cabbage , curry chicken and the fried chicken wings were excellent. Loved it. Coming from the NYC all the restaurants up here in the capital district suck and the women have funky attitudes. This place was different the lady behind the counter was very pleasant, I asked for no legs and she made it happen. The food was amazing. I been here twice once for chicken soup the other for brown stew chicken and tasted just as good as ever. I would recommend this place to anyone that is looking for authentic Jamaican food. Wish I lived closer.

I am from Brooklyn and this food was so good. I tried another place in albany that was not good at all but franks hit the spot. The jerk pork was juicy it was tender and packed with flavor. The jerk chicken was also juicy, flavor filled down right great. The roti was nice and hot. I will be ordering again for my family. They truly enjoyed. Most definitely will be referring to others.
