This was an ok experience. Service was the bright spot. The food was pretty average, I expected more but despite the server's recommendation it was fairly bland. Nice restaurant with a cozy vibe. Went for Valentine’s Day and got a reservation a week prior with no problem. Food was good but came out warm vs fresh/hot. Not sure if that was because it was a busy night but was expecting more for the pre we paid. Would give them another shot in the future on a less busy night. I have no idea why there’s mediocre reviews of this place because I absolutely love it! Been here several times and the food and service is always top notch. I was in tonight with my parents and we got the burger, salad, green beans, and the salmon. Everything was delicious. I love their cocktails too! Perfect date spot imo. We went to Coalition on a recent Saturday, and our experience was… weird. The night was very cold, so the restaurant was subdued and about one third full when we arrived for our 8:00p reservation. The food was fine and service was ok. What made things weird, though, was this: a bit before 8:45, and before we finished our meal, the lights suddenly went up and the staff started cleaning tables and sweeping the space as though they were closing the restaurant. (The Saturday close time listed on Google and Coalition’s site is 10p.) Granted, no one asked us to leave. But this isn’t what we expect when we pay $200 for a two person dinner, and it turned a fun night into a bad experience. I’ve come here quite a bit with family and friends. Whether it be brunch or dinner, all the menu items are delectable and consistently good. Their wine selections seem consistent with local wine store trends which I appreciate. The staff have always been amazing and attentive. *Shocked pikachu face*, I’ve turned into a regular here. There is room for improvment... Walking in at 7:15 on a tuesday and the place was packed and very noisy. No efforts made to reduce the sound and tables wee on top of each other. Drinks came right away, as well as our apps. Bruchetta was good, but didnt need the arugula. We split the beet salad - which did nothing for either off us. We had to swim through even more arugula to find the 1 or 2 beets. For our main, we split the halibat special (pictured). The fish was overdone however, everything else about this dish was amazing - gnocchi was cooked perfectly and the sauce made the dish. 3 stars because of over cooked fish (at $44 a plate), a beet salad with no beets, loud atmosphere and drink order that we never recieved. This is a great local stop in Excelsior serving up unique dishes in a small setting. We most recently tried the brunch which had a number of delicious items on the menu. The donut hole appetizers (in place of bread to start) was a fun treat. I also liked their old fashioned.

Besides having the best food around, the people of Coalition treat me like family. Good food is really important to me, but when you are made to feel welcome and greeted by people that have become friends it really makes it a different experience. Dinner is always great, but check out the social hour or come in for brunch and try the breakfast enchiladas (scrambled). Service Dine in

I was introduced to this place fir lunch by my friend that lives in the Twin Cities. It was the first time for the both of us. Because we’ve never been there before, we didn’t want to just try two dishes. Instead, we ordered 6 appetizers, some of which our server had recommended. They were all amazing but the cauliflower is a MUST try! A cool laidback atmosphere with amazing food and service. Definitely recommend.
