I went to this place with my family for lunch and the views, the service and food were amazing. You will have the traditional food in a fancy way. Everything was delicious. They would explain one by one all the components in the dishes. Excellent. There was a dish where for the ladies they will draw a heart while for the guys another shape. Ladies also get nice flower. We had fun and enjoyed the meal. Thank you very much for the experience.
At the end of the meal they gave us a tour and explain about this poet who was quite famous in his time. A beautiful place with very nice and calmly environment.

On my most recent trip visiting Sao Tomé e Principe, inspecting hotels and testing restaurants, my top culinary appreciation goes to this restaurant. The food is exceptional, the service excellent and the view breathtaking.
Congratulations to the team at Almada Negreiros
Assets:
- The hotel's location is ideal for exploring the north-central part of the island: Monte Café, the botanical garden, the Saint Nicolas waterfall...
- The scenery offered by the hotel, both from the restaurant and from the building in which the rooms are located, is grandiose: bird-rich forest moat, pretty garden, capital and ocean visible in the distance when the weather is clear.
- The breakfasts included in the room rate are rich and tasty, as are the almost gourmet lunch and dinner menus.
- The restaurant staff are friendly and helpful, even if it's hard to get through to those who speak only Portuguese.
- The wooden building housing the room I stayed in is attractive on the outside and practical on the inside. The room had a double bed (but only a bedside table), a side table, a rack and a small separate bathroom. The shower had hot water and a good flow.
Downside:
Contrary to what the Booking description of the hotel says:
- I didn't have a tray or a kettle in my bedroom;
- I didn't have access to a collective kitchen, cooking utensils, a microwave, a fridge or a dining table;
- I didn't have access to a living room;
- the bedrooms are not soundproof, as every night, I could hear my neighbors speak, cough, watch videos and so on, as if they were just next to me.
Some pictures visible on Booking also misrepresent the reality, as pictures #2, #5, #11, #12 and #13 show a nice living room, plus a dining room and kitchen that not everyone has access to. (I didn't...) And picture #4 doesn't seem to depict Roça Saudade guesthouse at all...
In addition, I would have found my stay easier and more enjoyable if :
- I had a little more light in my room at night (the 2 lamps currently available dimly illuminate the room) ;
- I could have communicated more easily with the restaurant and hotel staff without the language barrier (I speak English, French and Spanish...).

Great place! They even serve a vegan menu! The food Was delicious and the service excellent. A must when you are in the area. The terrace is beautiful with view into the jungle.

Very good restaurant with a relaxed atmosphere on the top of the forest, delicious food and great service. It's very easy to reach from the city with a road in great condition. There's also a cosy museum of the Portuguese artist Almada Negreiros born in this place in Sao Tome.
The waiter was extremely nice, the food great, eating vegetarian was no problem and the view breathtaking! All in all everything was perfekt :)
