This is the place for breakfast in Taupo! Loved how the food was freshly made, i took the mushroom cream bread thingy and also we had pancakes! I loved both of them!
Was a bit disappointed today, normally the food is of a great standard and we go here most weekends but today the food was really disappointing. The bacon 2 pieces where to a crisp and the other wasn't even warm. Mushrooms only had half the tub, the sausages were also over cooked. I didn't mind the wait but please if we are waiting 30 plus minutes for food at least make is good.

The food here is awesome and has lots of options. Recommend berry granola muesli, it’s very healthy and delicious, and Baku steak sandwich, also my friend likes the snapper fillet.
However, the two islander ladies’ attitude at the counter towards us are damn rude. We had redirected to the cafe counter for choosing drinks and lady there pretended ignored when we ask “if we can order now” and showed a contemptuous smile when she heard that we want to order at there. and the other one heard our pronunciation was not 100% correct for the dish’s name, she flashed a look of contempt, and even when we back to her to order and check the price, the whole process making us feel uncomfortable and rude. And somehow the waiter/waitress kept asking if they can take the plates away while we are still eating and waiting for food.
It’s easy to just tell us nicely that we should order at the other counter and correct our pronunciation without rude attitudes. We are traveling here for chilling and relaxing, but they made our moods worse🙃hope they manage the working attitude better

Cafe Baku, tucked away as a hidden gem in the heart of Taupo, is a culinary haven serving up an array of seriously delectable dishes. On my recent visit, I opted for the Works Breakfast, and it was nothing short of a feast – a generous heap of eggs, bacon, sausages, mushrooms, and grilled tomatoes that provided the perfect kickstart to my day.
What sets Cafe Baku apart extends beyond its mouthwatering menu; it’s the delightful atmosphere and the warm, attentive staff that make the experience truly memorable. The team exudes friendliness, and their attentiveness adds an extra layer of enjoyment to the dining affair.
Wholeheartedly, I urge anyone in search of a sublime dining experience in Taupo to consider Cafe Baku. It’s not just about the food; it’s an exploration of flavors in a welcoming haven. My recommendation stands strong – Cafe Baku is a must-visit, a hidden culinary treasure waiting to be discovered by those who appreciate fantastic meals in an inviting setting.
Downside: the cakes were not fresh at all. Do not try them.

Great brunch overlooking Lake Taupo. The staff is friendly and service quick. That paired with great coffee and a relaxed vibe made for a great start to this lazy Sunday.

A hipster feel cafe by facing Lake Taupo, seems to be quite popular with locals and visitors. Serving atypical Cafe type food, with sandwiches, cakes and pastries. As it is quite popular and turnaround is quite fast, i find the tables are not cleaned properly. Lots of crumbs on the table and underneath the table.
Nevertheless the service is quite fast and the food were quite good and portions were quite generous. We had the steamed mussels which were quite yummy and fresh, the beed pot is their specialty and was very filling, the chicken salad needs a bit of sauce to give more kick to it. Overall was quite satisfactory.

The almond croissant with creamy almond filling is in my top 3 almond croissants I've tried in NZ. Just the right balance of filling to bread. The chocolate one was interesting too but a little dry. Nice ambience, fantastic selection of cabinet food and the location is right next to the water.
