Excellent food and refreshing comfort in the midst of (of course, amazing) seafood. After a cool day, sitting down to hot tea and Sauerbraten with the most delicious gravy was much welcome. We started with the pulled pork fries which were excellent and a very generous portion though all the appetizers looked as satiating and hearty. We unfortunately did not save room for dessert but the cake case was looking tempting. Great atmosphere and service. Quiet between 4 and 5 for an early dinner. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
It's weird to find an authentic Bavarian inspired restaurant in a coastal town. I'm glad we found it. The decor is very different. Booths, tables, and a full bar The food, while not totally German, is close. Very much worth a visit. I was very excited to eat here but I was surprised at the poor quality of the food. I was served by a lovely gal who was quite attentive to the 6 people in the entire restaurant. I felt that my appetizer was inedible. The mushrooms were quartered and raw. The broccoli was raw, moldy and not washed and the bread was irregularly torn like it was leftovers. The fondue was NOT FONDUE, it was a thin sauce not made with the cheese described. I tasted the fondue and had to tell the server it was inedible. The bread, "made in -house" was dense and almost gooey. The main course at $33 tasted like leftover salmon in a fatty sauce. The carrots were cooked from frozen, very mushy and tastless. The spinach was fresh but no seasoning, just quickly steamed with with water which was very bland. When I commented on the appetizer I asked, "please don't tell the Chef until I get my main course." Well, the long haired, bearded cook with no hair nets came out and scowled at me. The main course of "Dutch Seafood Casserole" in an 3" ramekin was barely edible, and I couldn't get home fast enough to throw up. I was offered a free dessert to pay in cash. I declined because the cupboard of cakes had tinsel decor touching the 8 askew cakes with crumbs everywhere like they'd been there for a week. I was told the cook is "not a pastry chef and he hates making cakes." They were decorated like a child made them. I had really hoped for Spaetzle, but I found nothing "German" on the menu. German beer and Gewurtztraminer do not count, but it does help wash down the food. To say The Blue Heron was a disappointment is an understatement. Update: when it became apparent that the server told the cook I did not like the fondue and he came out to scowl at me, I feared retaliation, hence reviewing on this account rather than my main account as the attack below proves my fears justified. I now see why the article about the dishwasher buying the restaurant states he is not interested in pleasing locals and he relies on tourists. Tourists rarely return and don't review much. Went to the Blue Heron as recommended by our hotel. Massive portions of hearty, tasty food. Wonderful service too! 10 shrimps in the Shrimp Scampi which was too many! Also came with fresh warm bread. Wine was a little pricey. Food: 4 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 4

Food looked better than it tasted. Potatoes were a 10, eggs benedict with ham was pretty good. Eggs benedict with burnt ends was not good; meat too dry to swallow, meat skillet was ok but the sausage had an odd flavor and the restaurant was out of. tabasco and EVERY kind of hot sauce…it was boring. no german chocolate cake? at brunch? on a Sunday?in a Bavarian restaurant-really? and the espresso martini was apparently just khalua and a little vodka-too too sweet. there is an outdoor beer garden. We were the last table of the night (9/22/2023). Everything about this place was great. The server had a smile and was attentive. The host was adorably bubbly. The food from the bread to appetizer, and main dish were all AMAZING. I will eat there again. Service Dine in Meal type Dinner Price per person $20–30 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

Went there for some brunch today. Felt like I was not in Coos Bay, but in Germany. I got the over 21 Baconator French Toast. It was really good! The taste took me back to when I was at Disney World. Something to point out that is note worthy is that they reward you for paying in cash! Today, we were blessed with a slice of cake for paying in cash. If you don't pay in cash, then they charge you the credit card processing fee of 3.5%. But overall, I really enjoyed this place! They close after 1:30 pm and then open back up at 4 pm. They also have gluten free options as well. Service Dine in Meal type Brunch Price per person $10–20 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
I've live in Coos Bay over 10 years and finally decided to give Blue Heron a try. The atmosphere was warm and inviting. I was impressed by the diverse decor and the cleanliness of the restaurant. I was greeted promptly after arriving and was quickly offered a table. After looking over the menu I ordered the poutine for an appetizer and was pleasantly surprised with how delicious it was. For the main course I ordered the chicken stroganoff. At first glance, I was impressed by the presentation and aroma of the dish. Unfortunately, shortly after starting the dish I quickly realized that my pasta was over cooked, mushy, and even burnt on some pieces. The flavor of the sauce was delicious, but the texture of the pasta ruined the dish for me. My date had the burnt pork ends with mashed potatoes as the choice of side. He had minimal complaints, other than the mashed potatoes were a little bland. We got the peanut butter cake for dessert and I will say it was very delicious, the texture was just quite dry. Overall, it was a good experience and I would definitely go again, I just would not order the pasta. Service Dine in Meal type Dinner Price per person $20–30 Food: 3 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 4
