What a buffet breakfast with a choice of any 6 items. The taste was not bad for so many items. The toasted bread was tasty and the coffee with vanilla was so good. Good service and a nice atmosphere. The beautiful Lake Wanaka is just a minute away. Free 60P to 120P minutes car parking time. Enjoy! Healthy variety food, clean and fulfilling. Great staff. Awesome healthy treats are available. The juices and coffee was amazing. The fact that they have all the ingredients of everything they serve written down is fantastic, the staff really understand when you tell them that you need to avoid certain food with recommendations is just incredible. What a fantastic place! I wasn't sure about the concept. I mean, as I understood it, it's premade slow cooker food? At a restaurant? But yes, it works. Healthy tasty options, lots of them. And everything I had was great. Beef cheeks, lentil stew, rice with something, some kind of salad with fennel.. all great. Many desserts and treats, but I was too full to try them. Also nice is that they have both still and sparkling water free and on tap. Just nice! If you're the type of person who eats loads of veg and salad at home, you often miss these foods when travelling. That's probably why my partner and I had 4 out of 5 of our meals in Wānaka at Big Fig. The portions are plentiful enough to fill you up without being stuffed, and the quality and quantity of vegetarian offerings nearly brought a tear to my eye! Delicious roasted vegetables, braised beans, crunchy salads as well as an onion gratin that made me close by eyes in a silent, prayerful moment of contemplation. The restaurant seems to be constantly busy, so you might need to share a table with other patrons, but the staff do a great job of managing the chaos. This food was a highlight of our trip. What an amazing meal if you love healthy & organic food!!!! The lamb & beef meat ball & the beef cheeks were delicious. The vegetables were on rotation, by the time we got there, the broccoli only just sold out, so they ended up with carrots instead. All 4 salads we tried were amazing. Loved the mulled wine. Seems a little crazy when you walk in, but promise it's worth the wait! We were worried about finding a place to sit to dine in, but it wasn't a problem. By the time we selected our food and paid, there were tables available. Everything was delicious and the location close to the lake made for a nice view sitting outside. Fantastic food at a 'carvery' style restaurant. You select your plate size and then select your options. Only one meat allowed. All of the food was delicious and fresh. We especially enjoyed the beef cheek. My one complaint was that it got very busy with lots of people hanging around the main area. There needs to be an improved approach to speed things up. They also ran out of a few dishes which was a shane - I felt like better communication from the people serving to the kitchen would improve things. Highly recommended “slow food, served fast” place with middle eastern inspired flavours! We are on holiday in New Zealand and have been struggling to keep our diet relatively healthy, so it was true joy to find a place that allowed us to eat more nutritious food without sacrificing taste. Here, you choose 1 meat dish and supplement it with a variety of sides / salads. The meatballs and beef cheek were delicious and perfectly cooked, and the selection of sides were all well-made and tasty. The pitta bread and hummus was also so good we ordered extra portions!
