Hit and miss for me. Some of the food like Moroccan lamb and the laksa pasta - was amazing. However on the other hand, the Wagyu burger and Seafood Spaghetti totally not recommended. Meanwhile, don’t forget to try their free cotton candy, where you get the chance to make your own cotton candy! Price wise - consider quite expensive and on the high side. Pricey as far as Borneo goes but good value for money in terms of British food. £5 for a lobster pasta dish and £5 per cocktail but really good quality. Place was clean and well decorated, a rare find in Sandakan. Rooftop area has no shade so the heat is almost unbearable during the day but offers great views across the shoreline/sea. Highly recommend for a nice civilised lunch. Food: 5 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 4

We stumbled upon Balin which is right next to San De Gan. Its located in Nak Hotel and you have to take the lift to the 7th floor and from there the steps to Balin. Upon entering you cannot miss the beautiful decor and ambiance. It was beautifully decorated and designed. We went there to try their desserts so we had : - Bread & Butter Pudding (RM 16) - Valrhona Chocolate Lava Cake (RM 24) For drinks we had : - Chocolate Banana (RM 15) - Cappuccino Double Shot (RM 12) - Iced latte The bread and butter pudding was so good its not too sweet with the hint of vanilla and nutmeg. The custard had a good consistency and it was really delicious that we ordered another one 😂 the bread was not soggy just the right texture. The chocolate lava cake was so unique with its presentation. Visually was really good and tasted great even. The chocolaty taste of the lava cake accompanied with the ice cream and the fruits was a perfect mix and we really enjoyed it. Will definitely recommend this bistro and bar for their amazing vibe. We sat outside during the day and the amazing breeze that accompanies outside is so surreal😭 we sat there for 3 hours straight just enjoying the breeze, the ambiance and our company so this place is really perfect for hanging out w large group friends and family. The have a upper rooftop space and its even great especially at night so do recommend it :) This place is even beautiful at night and we had the indoor seating with great lighting and air conditioning feels very cozy! Reduced to 4 stars because it was raining during our night visit to Balin and it was flooding inside and it was wet making it slightly uncomfortable. Really enjoyed the time here, very great view of the Sandakan city and the bay from here. Quite breezy and cool especially in late afternoon and in the evening. The food and drink was quite okay. The staffs were helpful and attentive. To enter the place, you have to take the lift from the formerly Nak Hotel lobby, which is just beside San Da Gen Cafe. Nice looking place with a cute sea view but food wasn’t great and service was terrible. Unfortunately served raw lobster. Said it to the waiter but the language barrier made it difficult. Best food In Sandakan. The soft shell crab bao is a fantastic, balanced deconstruction. Fish and chips had fabulous fish, amazing tartar, and we loved the green pea with cucumber garnish! My only complaint is that the chips are “good enough”; a missed opportunity. Lovely location with a smiling, attentive staff.
