Aside from the delicious, generous, made-to-order breakfasts, what truly sets apart The Surfside is how beloved it is by its regulars and by how the regulars make newcomers feel like part of the gang.
The establishment has a cozy indoor dining room which seats approximately 16. (Outdoor seating is also available.) As soon as you step inside you're given the "once over" by the regulars, with hearty "good morning"s and courteous head nods (if one's mouth happened to be busy enjoying the fine fare).
No open table? Not too worry, everyone is happy to share a table and a story or more of Vinalhaven's history and characters. (And boy, do I mean characters!)
I ordered a short stack of blueberry pancakes and an egg over easy and enjoyed hearing the playful banter across tables as uncle teased niece and neighbor jostled neighbor. Even our server wasn't safe, as she was referred to as "old lady", despite looking to be in her twenties.
My breakfast arrived, eclipsing the plate it was served on, and I was thankful I got the "short stack". The pancakes were light with just the right amount of chewiness and the fresh blueberries were so sweet that just a kiss of syrup was enough.
I highly recommend coming for the delicious "home cooked" breakfasts, friendly staff, and friendlier regulars. You'll come hungry but leave with a full belly and cheery heart.
Went to eat breakfast with my family. We had 7 people in our group. Owner saw some of us got coffee at the bakery. She got really angry. Started yelling at us. She refused to serve breakfast. She was extremely impolite, rude and nasty.
I liked it, pancakes we're good, small place, don't expect much, but would go for breakfast any time.
