Been on a kick trying the best bread spots in the metro area. We got a bag of various goodies here during Saturday retail hours. I gotta say, was pretty disappointed. While the pastries were pretty good and likely worth the trip, the bread was middling at best. The crust was extremely tough and the flour didn’t have that strong gluten aroma you typically get with freshly milled, local flour. It’s unclear where they source their flour from, but website suggests from organic CO suppliers.
I hate to give a local small business anything less than 5 stars but my experience and reviews are so dissonant. fwiw, I used to work in a commercial bakery a long time ago (at lower elevation, and more humid environment). I imagine it’s super hard to churn out large batches in a low humidity environment. Low humidity = crustier bread. Probably why sourdough is so popular here and hard to find a good Italian loaf.

Bought artisan cheddar jalapeno bread at a bakery in San Diego last week that was the bomb! Searched Google for something similar here in Denver area and was excited to try based on other Google reviews. Got there 10 minutes early, took a ticket, and waited outside for my turn, which took about 30 minutes total. Spent about $30 on a loaf of cheddar jalapeno bread (very light texture, blaw jalapeno flavor and no hint of cheddar cheese), 1 cookie(burnt chocolate flavor), 1 scone(ok, not anything special), and 2 croissants(praying they are great considering they were almost $6 each). Be warned, they are only open to the public Saturday from 10-2. Guess I need to try another bakery!

We got a multitude of options to try out and they were all fantastic. Highly recommended, it's obvious this is a top notch bakery. If you're in the area, you should definitely make a trip over here.

I went to Grateful Bread for the first time yesterday. My family has been telling me about it for a while and we finally got there. I bought a jalapeno Tillamook batard. When we got home we sliced it up to dip in olive oil. It was so good. This morning I toasted a slice for breakfast and it was even better the second day. I live 85 miles from Golden but I'll definitely be looking for reasons to travel there on a Saturday.
