Everything was amazing,from the cod to the hanger steak, and even veggies! I only gave a 4/5 stars because I wish they had just a little more variety on side dishes. Yet everything was cooked and presented beautifully. Our cocktails (the Archangel) looked stunning and tasted amazing. We also loved the atmosphere, as it has a very sexy masculine vibe. Mediocre food with below average service. My wife was very excited to try Carnal after reading the story of its inception. We made reservations and were seated on time. Started with cocktails and tartare. Tartare was alright. Nice presentation but served with potato chips - I feel a crostini would be more complimentary. For mains we had the hanger steak and black cod. Cod was very dry and served in several small pieces. Steak was quite chewy. As everything is à la carte we shared the cauliflower which was actually the most enjoyable thing we had. The bill recommended a 30% tip which seemed ludicrous considering we saw our server about 3 times. Overall, I just don’t see this place being worth the hype. I always read bad reviews first the beware or stay on the cautious side of places…for starters don’t go here if you’re on a budget or are wanting leftovers. Other than that the service was great — laid back, not smothering, very knowledgeable of the menu and overall helpful/accommodating. The food you won’t get anywhere else. We were beyond impressed. We had our favorites and we had our “in the end, it’s just carrots” yet the carrots were still incredible. The salad and wings were personally my favorite, along with the cauliflower. I couldn’t come here again and not order those three. Very well done, food was amazing, atmosphere was great, service was spot on. Thus is definitely one of the most fun places I've gone to eat. It's entertaining to eat an ice cream or drink a delicious margarita looking at all of the creative art. This spot is also linked to another shop that is a sibling shop. Extremely great service and atmosphere. When I come back to bellingham I'll be sure to come back again.
