My wife and I had dinner at Shambles (12/28/23). Shambles is one of the “midway” restaurants on Centerline Road, between Cruz Bay and Coral Bay. It’s just across the street from its partner restaurant, Sweet Shack, and a few yards further on is the Windmill Bar, known for its spectacular views, especially sunsets.
It’s a colorful, fun-looking, casual restaurant. There was plenty of seating (no reservations needed), and the bar area was mostly full of local folks, always a good sign. We started the evening with a few painkillers and rum punches, both of which were delicious and potent! St. John is known for its “pours,” and Shambles fits the bill nicely! For an appetizer, we ordered the buffalo cauliflower, which was delicious, flavorful, and had a medium kick to it. For dinner, we split a veggie pizza, which was served piping hot. It was flavorful, and the vegetables were plenteous and not overcooked. Service was perfect—relaxed and attentive. And by St. John standards, Shambles is not too pricey, either.
We planned our evening with a start at Shambles, then headed over to Shamble’s Sweet Shack for dessert: candied pecan ice cream. Mindblowing—so good! We took our ice cream with us to Windmill Bar for the sunset. (The staff member at Sweet Shack assured us it would be okay, and it was.) Shambles AND Sweet Shack were the perfect start to our evening, and are definitely on our list of restaurants to revisit on our next trip.

The people were very nice - but I would steer clear of the vegan ice cream. Wasn’t a single person in the car who didn’t dump theirs shortly after purchase

Beware, they added a 25% tip to our order. We had 2 parties of 5 and when we questioned the 25% tip, the manager said the computer automatically adds this to parties of 10 (funny how the computer knew when our check said 5 guests, as did the other)
The food was fine, however it took about an hour to get our food after we ordered. They charged us $2 for a tiny container of extra buffalo sauce; They also charged extra for the cheese on the patty melt

1. this is the only platform I wrote a review on. There may have been other unhappy people in our group who wrote a review on another platform, but I assure you, this was the only review I have written.
2. A 25% tip was added, not 20%!
3. There might have been less than an hour wait indicated on our ticket. However, we waited at the table for a considerable amount of time before our order was taken.
4. A patty melt by definition has cheese (and stated on your menu). Although this charge was removed after we pointed it out, should never have been there in the first place.
All in all a frustrating and unpleasant dining experience.

I stopped in there on a Saturday night and missed the kitchen closing by a few minutes. Will and the kitchen were kind enough to throw a pizza in for my wife and kids. People and service are some of the best I've ever had. Super nice place, thanks again

Definitely a new favorite of ours in St.John. Will and Brigitte were so friendly and drinks were spot on. Next time we are inSt.John we will definitely visit again!
