The good ideas club decided that we should go on a winter trip to a place called Brexit or Brexstad or something like that in Norway. We arrived at our hotel in the midst of a bleak midwinter evening and decided that we had to brave the elements and get something to eat. Being young, fit and brave we decided that we should journey as far as the eye could see to a fine cuisine establishment. The eye could only see across the street to a restaurant named Melissas and our group battled the elements and walked the epic 200 yard journey to get there. Surviving the ordeal of treacherous snow and ice, we arrived the staff were very nice and they spoke the English language at an advanced level that left no confusion about what we were going to be served. Norway is famed for being cold, having properly funded services, owning its own gas and being one of the happiest countries in the world. However, have you ever seen a cow in Norway? Me neither. With that thought in my mind I knew I was getting a cheeseburger. It then dawned on me that there are no pigs here either... So it had to be a bacon cheeseburger. Oh, have you heard of Norwegians growing potatoes? No? I'll need some chips as well. My order was placed and it arrived in about 5 minutes. After shovelling the salad and burger sauce out of the burger and replacing it with some Norwegian ketchup I started eating. Wow. Easily the best cheeseburger I've ever eaten in Norway. Probably the best cheeseburger since I went to Bootleggers in Hopeman for my anniversary. As someone who is partial to this style of cuisine, I'd rate the food as very satisfying and sleep inducing. It certainly filled the hole in my belly. We sat in an area of the restaurant that I would liken to a library. But once you notice the buzz from the filament heaters you'll soon notice your eyeballs will dry out very quickly. You'll soon forget about the silence as your eyelids turn into sand paper. I've been back there a few times since the first time. In fact, I've probably completed the menu and will in part be responsible for the record quarterly profits they are going to post.
