This was our second experience here and our first time dining in. Overall, for Westcliffe the prices were reasonable.
The owner is extremely hospitable and takes a lot of pride in her cooking, as she should. Her marinades and meats are made with so much love. A lot of the food around here is… soulless and that’s not the case at Imperio Azteca. It’s flavorful and the portions are more than enough.
There are only 2 things I think they could improve on, and I think these 2 things would make the difference between a good dining experience and an amazing one. The salsa is pretty mediocre. It’s too syrupy and sweet. Fresh salsa is unbeatable and would compliment the chips a lot better.
The second thing, and most importantly, is the tortillas. They taste more or less like the ones from a generic grocery store. Sort of cakey. I know it’s a lot of work to make them from scratch, but I would recommend hitting up Luna Market or Carniceria Leonel for theirs. Food like this DESERVES a good tortilla. I understand why the last place didn’t do good tortillas, but this is on another level.
Y’all dont NEED to change a thing to be good. But I think with a couple of small tweaks you’ll be amazing. I can’t wait to see where y’all are a year from now!
