ALWAYS CHECK THE DATES ON THE MEATS AND PERISHABLES!! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve shopped here and thought wow such a great discount on a certain item that I purchased, only to get home and go to cook or eat and find out it was deeply discounted for a reason. SPOILER ALERT!!
The only complaint I have about IGA is the fact that they have less buying power than Walmart, meaning higher prices. Their sales do offset the issue to a degree, and they provide a pleasant shopping experience.
I enjoy the sales here. If you are in a hurry i wouldn't use self check out. Slow at the weight verification on bagging side. Anyway thanks for reading my experience.
The other day, I stopped by the IGA in Olney and got some of Gabe's Fried Chicken to take out.
I got 3 Breasts and was Surprised at their Portions... either I am getting smaller or these Chicken Breasts are coming from Birds Larger than I can Imagine (which is Entirely Possible, because the Last Time I had a Close Encounter with Full-grown Chickens was nearly 45 Years ago...).
The Chicken Breasts were Absolutely delicious and Moist without being at all greasy, and the Breading was Perfectly Seasoned as well.

I have shopped at this store for at least 40 years. The people are nice, the store is clean, and their meat department is great. On the negative, their prices are high, and for some bizarre reason they elected to install self-checkout and remove three of their registers. I tried these once and found myself pulling out what's left of my hair. What confuses me most is, if someone has to constantly assist customers with these mechanical atrocities, then what can this possibly save a store?
Now the checkout times are longer, because they only have two full service registers, and rarely are they both manned. Folks, high prices and less service are generally not good bed fellows. I will still shop IGA, because of the previously mentioned items, but I will also visit other stores, where they also have poor checkout service, but lower prices.
I was racially profiled at this IGA store in Olney Illinois on March 8, 2023. I was approached and told to take my bookbag off by a worker I did comply to simply avoid unnecessary conflict but I did feel like I was racially targeted by the employee.
I literally have never stolen anything from any store in my life I don't even go into stores if I don't have money to pay for anything. I only carry my bookbag so I don't have to carry all those grocery bags in hand as I walk home I put the heavy stuff in my bookbag and carry the light stuff in hand and if this store has cameras everywhere in the store why would I even need to take off my bookbag if all you have to do is check the cameras. I have been coming to this store since April of 2022 multiple times with my bookbag so I don't know why it was a problem now. I felt targeted and embarrassed
Went in again on a Sunday after church at noon . To pick up fried chicken to find no chicken ready . All they had was chicken strips . And the one fryer that they had turned on was full of strips. Deli workers acted like they could care less about this problem. So we left and went to WALMART !!!
