After you have seen The Truman Courthouse, visit this bar. Invite your friends with you to have good tenderloin, bacon and chicken pies. Hadn't been here in years. My friend said they were in the mood for a sandwich for dinner or a burger. We were near the square, so I suggested here. We were seated quickly as they were not busy. We ordered and received our drinks. The food arrived in a timely manner. The burger was cooked perfectly, and the French fries were incredible. I need to come back because my kids will love these fries. I wondered why I hadn't been here in so long. I'll definitely be returning soon. A disappointing meal in an underground space with loads of character and cheerful yet unhelpful service. The hamburger was fine; nothing worth returning for. My side was the recommended mashed potatoes. They tasted like they came from a box (although they're said to be made from scratch). I should've opted for the french fries. My buddy's pork tenderloin plate looked beautiful but didn't have much flavor. It suffered from the same school cafeteria mashed potatoes. On the plus side, he said the green beans were great and he devoured them. We decided to order dessert, since a good dessert can salvage an otherwise mediocre experience. I got the bread pudding, which was oddly dense and bland. My buddy's German chocolate pie was just okay. We only had about two bites of each dessert. When our server asked if we wanted to go boxes for the desserts (fair question), we said we thought they weren't good, to which she made no reply. It was the first time we've gotten dessert that lowered the overall enjoyment of the meal. Pretty disappointing lunch for $58. Considering the restaurant is right across the street from the busy courthouse, it was fairly empty throughout the lunch window. As a nearby merchant shared with me, "When I want good food, I leave Independence." And that's just sad. Price per person $20–30 Food: 2 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 4

We visited on Saturday afternoon for lunch, didn't have to wait but maybe 10min to be seated. Our server was very nice and did a great job! I tried their seasonal drink called the grinch! It was yummy and fun looking. Their broccoli cheddar soup is fantastic. Get a bowl not a cup, you will want more. We ordered a chicken fried steak (my favorite of what i tried) meat loaf dinner and I had a honey Sriracha chicken sandwich- chicken was very moist and had a nice crispy breading but the honey Sriracha didn't really standout for flavor. Wonderful little pub. I had some business over in independence at the courthouse and wanted to get some local lunch while I was there. This spot did not disappoint. The atmosphere was wonderful, staff was helpful, and the food was fantastic. Definitely would not hesitate to go there again. 🍔AMAZINGLY LOCAL🍔 This joint has been on our list for a few years now and we've finally made it! I love the idea that this location has been around since the late 1890's, we love our local history! It was hard to choose 1 thing from the menu, but I figured if burgers were their thing since the turn of the century, I'd better get a burger. Toasted buns, extras on the side and do yourself a favor and get the sweet potato fries 🍟 (you get that sweet little rhyme for free😎) Kids meals were a good size and good options. Polly's Pop soda (doesn't come in the glass bottle...just fyi) still good. Weekly specials. Drink specials. Enjoy your eating experience underground! Really cool place. Food is delicious and large portions. Prices are pre-pandemic. I got the grilled cheese with bacon sandwich on Hawaiin Bread. Great place, especially when outside seating is available. Great atmosphere, great food especially the fried chicken, we always order an extra helping of the chicken as a side dish. If you can catch the outside seating while the weather is nice, you can also catch some live entertainment while you eat. Price per person $10–20 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

An outstanding experience, and definitely a place I’ll continue to eat at when I’m in the area. The service was quick and attentive. The food was outstanding. I walked our server what she recommended and she brought the chicken fried chicken. DELICIOUS. This is a great place for a family meal or for a work lunch.
