Wow, haven’t tried this place a couple of years- it’s changed for the better! Food was SO GOOD, ordered last night for pick up, we got the fragrant chicken and governor’s shrimp, plus some soup (can’t think of the name) plus potstickers - all the food was outstanding in quality and flavor. My family and I have been going to China Star (formerly Ruby's) for decades. Even though I now live in Cottage Grove, China Star is still our go to restaurant for Chinese cuisine. Tina and Ming are some of the kindest people you will ever meet, and their food is just a great as the service. Pork egg foo young and pork fried rice are our go-tos, although my fiancee has now added the general tsos chicken to our selection. Can't recommend them enough! First time , delivery Beef lo main , general tao's chicken, orange chicken, spring rolls. The beef lo main & general tao's believe it or not to much meat. Lacking fresher veggies, literally had 2 peapod and carrots. Orange chicken, outside batter looked like greasey crumble paperbag, no crunch, inside batter looks grayish, chicken very dry . I'm pretty surprised about the food that I got this evening as I do order frequently not a lot but frequently from China Star here in Monona. I've never had a reason to complain before but I just have to share this. I ordered the Mongolian chicken and it tasted good but I had eaten about a bowl or so and found literally VERY little chicken but onions were not in short supply. The photos show the truth. Onions galore but very little chicken. I think I mistakenly ordered the Mongolian onion dish. Disappointed to say the least. I understand that things have gotten more expensive and especially chicken might be in short supply but I also value my money and what it can buy me and this was just not a good value at all. Not sure I'll go back there and that is disappointing to me as I really like their Mei fun and shrimp fried rice.

Originally gave them 5 star on door dash review. And overal would still be a 5 star until I was eating my rice and bit into this. A staple!! They don’t even use staples on the boxes the rice comes in. How did that get in there! Thank god it wasn’t in the portion I gave my son. And that was half way into the box of rice. Incredible portion size and value for money from this Chinese restaurant. We ordered two entrees with rice, the to-go bag was downright heavy, and the cost was a mere twenty dollar bill. Tried the hot chicken and vegetable and the moo goo gai pan, both of which were very good. There was enough for a large dinner with leftovers for next day’s lunch! The last talking phone orders spoke perfect English and was a joy to speak with. The pick up window takes every Covid-19 precaution possible. Great place overall!

Quick service. Egg rolls are delicious, especially when dipped in sweat n sour sauce. We ordered sweet and sour chicken and chicken fried rice.there are no veggies inside the chicken fried rice. We were used to having peas and other types of vegetables inside the chicken fried rice this place does not have that.
