I love this castle. Even thought it's probably not the most beautiful castle in the region but it has it's vibe and it's very educational. I would love to come back when my son is older so he could enjoy it more. I would recommend to visit especially if you have a museum card. P.S. There is a very beautiful forest near by with very nice tracking possibilities.

Such a great place ! The castle and surrounding is just so much fun and so beautiful!! Deffo worth few more visits!!!
Beautiful little castle away from everything, we walked there through beautiful forests. It was closed when we're there, but we enjoyed the visit without the crowds.

Located approx 20 min by car west of Arnhem and on the bank of the river Rhine, Doorwerth Castle is worth a visit. Ample free car parking only about 5 minutes walk from the castles entrance. The castles rich history covers more than 700 years. Once inside the castle, the route is well marked and easy to follow. The rooms are well laid out, covering a wealth of information, covering military, social history, and nature, and make sure you visit the art display. Not suitable for wheelchair and people with walking disabilities as you have to navigate the route up and down many narrow and uneven stone stairs. The small cafe serves some very tasty cakes. If you intend to have a meal, make sure you acquire a menu while queuing as you will find no list of food at the counter. If you have time, make sure you take the short detour to the river Rhine.

Nice castle. It is a bit difficult to reach by public transport but it is definitely worth to give it a visit. The museum is small but very interesting.

Did you know this Castle is haunted? The owner of the castle won a duel with a man who was engaged to another woman, and he ultimately won the hand of the women. Unfortunately, the woman killed him during their honeymoon night and he is now a permanent, ghostly resident. Buying a ticket gives access to the castle and a great deal of information on the history of the building and it various owners, as well as access to a multitude of furnished rooms and others with displays and historic items... They tell of the highs and lows of living in this castle for the last 600 years. Hidden inside the castle is a museum Veluwezoom with art of the Dutch artist Koekkoek, who made interesting landscape paintings (pictures taken of his art are zoomed-in, not entire paintings). The castle has a small giftshop and a large cafe that has rather higher than normal prices for refreshments and food. As it is a castle, it isn't friendly for the mobility impaired, however, for children it is a great experience as their is a moat, steep, winding steps, and even ancient knights in shining armor.
A very nice experience with the surrounding walk paths and the castle tour. The history is of course the most interesting part and how the castle has been part of history. You can get a laminated guide “book” in English, which was immensely helpful. The “privy” back in the day was not very private, but I guess very convenient to have it in the living room. Take a detour and check it out and have a nice walk.
