We arrived around 5pm on a Saturday night and it was not too busy yet. The restaurant has quite the history and historical appearance with white tablecloth service. My children thought it was very fancy and pretty. We only had the fried chicken. My kids received two chicken legs each. Each adult gets half a chicken. All sides are served home style. First they give you your drinks and then bring out pickles , cottage cheese, seasoned pears, peaches and cole slaw. It seems that is the pears, peaches and pickles are house preserved and very good. My kids did not like that the pickles were not separated from the fruit because the pickle juice did get on the fruit. Almost immediately the chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy, cream corn and biscuits arrived. All seemly homemade and delicious. Dessert of homemade vanilla ice cream wrapped up the meal. My kids were in heaven. We had enough chicken and sides left over for another meal. It was delicious and if you find yourself in Abilene you should definitely visit this place, you will not regret it.

A true gem. I grew up eating at Brookville several Sundays a year with my family. The prior owners, Mark and Connie Martin are amazing people and I am so glad someone has grabbed the baton to carry this place on its path of greatness. Coming here on Mother’s Day this year and can’t wait!

We Had the Fried Chicken Dinner
We came in at 6 pm on a Friday and the kitchen was backed up due to a large group of Rotations. Our server apologized and did a great job in taking care of us. The only issue we ran into was in booking the gathering a month ago, we were given meal options of chicken, beef, or steak. The day of the event we called to confirm and they did not have steaks to offer us. The chicken was good, the people who had the beef ate every bite, so I'll assume it was good. If you are traveling through our just need a change the family style meal was a welcome treat from the past. The restaurant was moved years ago from Brookville and the new location in Abilene tries to recreate the atmosphere of the original. The establishment was closed a few years ago, it has reopened with the Munson's at the helm. The recipes seem to be every bit as good as I remember. Give it a try, it's good comfort food.

We Had the Fried Chicken Dinner
I was really disappointed in our experience here. I just don't get all the hoopla about the food. My husband and I both ordered the chicken. The mashed potatoes and gravy were decent but everything else tasted very bland. The ice cream was soft and almost melted. The service was good and the building was clean. It was a very awkward experience because it was ridiculously quiet in the dinning room. The decor felt like a nursing home from the 1990s.
