Our waitress was very friendly and helpful. The only disappointment was the wait we had for our first 🍺. It was not extremely long, and the beer was still cold, so it wasn't really bad. After being sat at the wrong table, then waiting over an hour for our meal, we received the worst meal I think I ever had, and I'm 58 year's old. Nothing but rushed cold slop. The way you see the picture is the way we left the food leaving to go to a different restaurant. OWNER, please don't don't under this review to contact you to correct, I have already turned down your comp meal on this slop, and we have already turned down your gift card for this slop. We are grandparents from the other side of the State taking our grandkids out to dinner. Thank you for making our evening horrible sending us all out the door upset and hungry. My husband and I truly enjoyed our dining experience. Kim was our server, and she was absolutely great! We have been looking for a restaurant for our dinner dates that we can enjoy since we have not been very impressed with other local choices. We found Barrel House on Google maps and decided why not. We're glad we did! We had a great date. Kim did a wonderful job checking on us & making us feel welcome. We didn't feel rushed to leave and were able to enjoy our drinks and each other's company. They have a great selection of alcohol, including my husband's Scotch, which is hard to find in a restaurant with affordable prices. I really enjoyed the Royal Red Martini! Conveniently located, with a wide-ranging menu, and a well appointed bar, the Barrel House is well worth a visit. Our servers were very competent and the food did not disappoint. The beer menu had some fine craft varieties to pair with the usual popular offerings. The rest rooms are modern and were well attended despite the large crowd. Was really looking forward to our visit. If all the restaurants in Dubuque, Barrel house stood out, mostly cause we were looking forward to the lobster dip. We ordered it immediately with our drinks. Shortly later our dinner order were taken, only to be served dinner prior to our appetizer we were anticipating. The server was more focused sitting and chatting with her friends than getting out order correct. Maybe my expectations were too high for a college town. Stopped in on a Saturday around 4pm and were seated right away. Fun environment. A huge menu—lots of different apps, sandwiches, wraps, burgers and pizza. Service was good, our waitress was friendly and attentive. Great beer menu. 🍻 Would definitely come back when visiting Dubuque. Very average experience. The firecracker shrimp were good and the beer list was above average. We both enjoyed our main sandwiches, however the second half of my Reuben was about 80% sour kraut which was disappointing after having such a great first half of the sandwich. What really disappointed me was what I can only describe as unequivocally the worst sweet potato fries I have ever ordered. Chewy, cold, stringy. If you end up here I highly recommend avoiding those. They earned all 5 stars. Yes, I scored the service at 3/5 stars because they were understaffed and need to work on developing a culture where people want to work here. I get it, it's difficult, but others are successful at it (Chick-fil-A does it). The food was amazingly good and very generous. The service we had was amazing, but slow. Our waiter was an awesome, the menu has a lot of spicy items on it but very good portions. The picture of my Cali avo spinach wrap is only a half. The spinach dip was very creamy. Three members of my family ordered the barrel burger, the kids seemed to like it, but my husband said it wasn't very juicy and our burgers at home are better. I enjoyed the Ruben and the sweet potato fries. Everyone loved the regular fries. The potato chips tasted overcooked, burnt. Everyone seemed to like the fish fry and I liked the cole slaw.
